Blog 8: I've Been on a Lot of First Dates. Here's Why I Haven't Got Past the Third.
There's something I've started doing recently that I want to share.
I stand in front of the mirror and I really look at myself. Not a passing glance. Not checking my outfit before I leave the house. I actually stop, look myself in the eyes, and tune into what comes up.
And what comes up is excitement.
Goosebumps. A gut churning feeling that is entirely the good kind. An almost overwhelming sense of being genuinely excited about who I've become, who I'm still becoming, and the life I'm living right now.
I already have the feeling I've been looking for.
And that changes everything about how I show up when it comes to love.
Dating with intention happened naturally
For a while dating has just been part of living. Fun, exploratory, no real agenda. I wasn't on a mission and I wasn't in a rush.
But something has shifted recently without me deciding to shift it.
I've started dating with intention. Not because I went looking for it. Because I know myself well enough now that intention is just what happens naturally.
I've been on a lot of first dates. I haven't got past the third.
And here's what I've realised. I'm not actually seeking it out anymore. If something comes, I'll happily engage with it. But I'm not on the hunt for it. Because what I'm looking for isn't someone to be with. It's someone to add to a life that is already genuinely, beautifully full.
What potential actually looks like
It doesn't have to be everything on the first date.
But it does have to have potential. And potential, for me, looks like one specific thing.
A mutual willingness to actually get to know each other.
Not performing. Not impressing. Actually wanting to understand how the other person works. What they thrive from. What they need. And being genuinely interested in offering that while being open enough to receive it back.
When that's there from the beginning, even in small ways, I’ll feel it.
When it's not there, I know it won't arrive later.
I know the feeling i’m looking for with someone.
That feeling I get when I look in the mirror, the excitement, the eye contact I don't want to break, I want to feel that with somebody. Not because I need it from them. Because I already have it. And I want to find someone who matches it.
What I'm actually looking for
My life right now is full. The friendships, the business, Daniel's development, the work I do, the woman I'm becoming. It is all genuinely full.
So when I think about introducing somebody into that life, the question isn't who will complete this.
The question is who will add to it.
Who will amplify the good feelings that already exist. Who will unlock the next level of experience, joy, love and growth that I can already feel waiting on the horizon. More experiences. More laughter. More love.
I want to be adored. I want someone who makes an effort not because I've asked for it but because I inspire that in them naturally. I want mutual growth, mutual contribution, mutual excitement about where we're both going.
And I want to give all of that back in equal measure.
What I know with complete confidence
The man who will go beyond the third date is out there right now.
He is doing his own work. Building his own life. Becoming the person who will be worthy of what I've built and who I've become.
And I'm doing the same for him.
I'm not in a rush. I'm not settling because it feels alright. No, I want it all.
When the time is right, I'll have it all.
But here's what I really want you to take from this very personal blog of mine.
Don't stop discovering yourself.
What lights you up. What sucks your joy. What makes you feel alive and what quietly drains you. Keep asking those questions. Keep doing the work. Because when you know yourself that well, something extraordinary starts to happen.
Every single area of your life begins to elevate.
Not because everything around you changes. Because you do. You were fine before. But now you're elevated. And you start to realise that the happiness, the excitement, the motivation, the encouragement — it was always in you, for you. It was never somewhere else to be found.
It feels very empowering to be in this position. Not needing. Not attached to the outcome. Just confident that everything is going to find me.
And enjoying every single moment of the journey along the way.
